Florence-Darlington Technical College staged a dramatic comeback on Sunday, overcoming a 7-0 deficit to defeat Gaston College 10-8 and secure a spot in the Region 10 Tournament championship game.
Trailing by seven runs after five innings, the top-seeded Stingers erupted for nine combined runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Josh Campos sparked the rally, scoring twice and hitting a double as part of a 2-for-3 performance. Patrick Evans was a key contributor, collecting two hits and three RBIs, including a sacrifice fly during the late-game surge.
Cooper Zohner also chipped in with two hits, a run, and an RBI before being replaced by Jake Zehner, who made an immediate impact with a two-RBI double. Devin Mitchell added a double, two RBIs, and a stolen base, helping the Stingers build momentum down the stretch.
The bullpen shut the door on Gaston's offense in the final innings. Nick Cappello earned the win with 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief, while Jackson Mullen pitched a scoreless ninth to secure the save.
Florence-Darlington totaled 11 hits and drew five walks, showcasing patience and resilience at the plate. The victory not only preserved their unbeaten tournament run but also gave them a clear advantage heading into the championship—they will need to be beaten twice to be eliminated.
The Stingers will face the winner of Game 9 (Gaston vs. USC Sumter/USC Union) in the title matchup on Tuesday, May 6 at 11 a.m.
